Reviewing this comfy and cosy nursing bra
Choosing clothes for postpartum life while you’re still pregnant can feel a bit of a nightmare. There’s so much choice, and it’s hard to know how you’re going to feel, physically or mentally. So it was with some trepidation that I took to the task of ordering maternity bras. I’d bought a couple in person during a bra fitting (my boobs had gone up by several cup sizes, and that was only in week 20-something!), but knew I wanted a couple more. A few Google searches and some targeted ads brought me to Cake Maternity. I was instantly drawn to the Biscotti bra, as it looked super comfortable. I wanted something I could easily remove, and which would be nice to sleep in. This bra turned out to really do the trick.
Skin to skin
One of the touted advantages of the bra is that it is great for skin to skin time in the early days. It actually ended up being the bra I took with me to the hospital, and wore post-labour, so I can vouch for this aspect. It was so lovely to just be able to pull it open and lay my lovely little baby directly on me, then be able to do it up quickly for a bit of privacy (read: dignity!) when people came into the room. I wore it essentially like a crop top for the first few days, and it was just what I wanted.
Lack of support
One of the criticisms I’d read in reviews of the bra on their website was that it isn’t particularly supportive. This is definitely the case. Potentially if you size down you might get a bit of compression support, but it is unwired and doesn’t have a very strong band of elastic, so it doesn’t really work to hold you up or in place. What I would say is that this isn’t particularly what I was looking for in this bra. I was too tired, spent too much time in bed, and wanted too much access to really be worried about support for the first week or two. For that, it was perfect. When I started getting up and about more, I continued to wear this in bed and for sleeping, which it had been great for. So while it certainly doesn’t offer the support I need for day-to-day life, it did just what I needed at the time. I ended up buying a second one, and they’re still my go-to pyjama top, perfect for stress free night feeds (if there is such a thing!).
Leak free
Another suggested benefit of this bra is its leak free qualities. This mostly comes from the removable padding in the cup area. Unsurprisingly, I removed this almost immediately – as with all of these things, they soon became annoying when I wanted to wash it. I was lucky to not leak too heavily after the first couple of weeks to a month, and at the moment don’t really leak at all. For those early weeks, I used nursing pads to catch any excess, which worked perfectly fine. The bra itself is also made of quite a thick material, so I found this could handle smaller leaks, even without the padding. If you’re experiencing heavier leakage, I think you’d definitely need more than just the bra to handle them, but if it’s only light, this will probably do the job.
Should you buy it?

In short, yes! I think this is a really nice option for those early cosy, mostly in bed cuddling baby weeks, and I’ve found it useful far beyond that. If you’re looking for a soft, comfortable, and practical bra and aren’t too bothered about heavy leakage or needing lots of support, this is a great option. I’m a big fan of my two, and can see myself wearing them long after I stop breastfeeding, because they’re just so comfy!

What did you wear in the early postpartum weeks? I don’t think there were that many days I wore full clothes, I was mostly in t-shirts and pants! It’s a crazy time, and I think prioritising comfort is a must! That was even before I’d bought that many breastfeeding tops, so this bra did lots of double duty as a crop top too.
