My new favourite water bottle
This is definitely not the first water bottle I’m reviewing on The Feminist Gadabout (see my Joseph Joseph Dot Active Water Bottle Review here), but it is my favourite. I was going to say that I discovered this brand via Instagram adverts, but it would be fairer to say that I very specifically found just this water bottle, the Blem Beach Accessories Easy Clean Bottle. It wasn’t until after it arrived that I twigged the brand is aimed at surfers! I could not be further from the target audience (recalling that ‘learn to swim’ is one of the things I failed to tick off my 30 Before 30 list!). But clearly surfers are not the only people who need nice water bottles.
The algorithm has obviously learned that I love green (or just that I’m a millennial, and they love all things sage green), and this shade was hard to resist. It’s a lot more of a blue-sage green in person, looking a bit subtler than the photos they provide on their website.
The bottle is double-walled, so it maintains the temperature of your drink. A nice, fairly standard feature. But what really sold me on this bottle is a feature I haven’t seen anywhere else: a removeable bottom. So you can actually clean it! Ok, you can still clean all other bottles, but let’s be honest, it’s a bit of a faff. I know for a fact that I did not clean my bottles as often as I should have. Blem’s bottle’s base unscrews, so you can really easily get a sponge in and give it a thorough wash. This alone is enough to make it better than any other bottle I’ve owned. I don’t get why this isn’t a more common feature.

I’ll admit I was sceptical at the start – surely it was too good to be true, and it would leak? But to this day, after daily use and countless trips in my very messy, thrown-about rucksack, it’s not spilled a drop. I cannot emphasise enough how much I love this feature. It seems like a fairly small thing, but the ease of being able to wash it just makes things so much simpler. I was always a bit worried I wasn’t cleaning my old water bottles well enough, so knowing that I’m getting in there and doing a proper job every time is really reassuring.
I would be pleased if the capacity was just a bit bigger – it’s only 600ml – but it’s already fairly large due to the double walling, so I should probably be thankful that it isn’t any bulkier. The holder is also kept in place by the lid being screwed on, so doesn’t work when the bottle is open. This is only a minor design flaw, but it is something I notice fairly often. There are only three colours to choose from: Indigo Blue, Sage Green, and Pastel Pink (which actually looks more peachy in the photos), so not a particularly wide selection. You’re not necessarily going to find your very favourite colour, but at least they’re a nice range.
If you’re looking to make it a little more special or unique to you, they do offer a personalisation option. This allows you to add up to 11 characters (very precise!) of text to the lid of your bottle. Not something I’d usually go for, but on this occasion I did (my name), and it’s kind of cute.
There are a couple of small things I’d change about this bottle, but overall it fits my needs perfectly, and it’s become my all-time favourite. There’s a lot of ‘discourse’ around what your favourite water bottle says about you these days. Well, you can’t really trust mine, because I’m no surfer. But if it says I’m someone who values a decent balance between pleasing aesthetics and practicality, I guess it’d be right!
I hope you enjoyed this review, and I heartily encourage you to check out Blem bottles for yourself! What’s your go-to water bottle, and what do you think it says about you? Let me know in a comment, and thanks for reading!

[…] is a long way from the first water bottle I’ve written about (see Joseph Joseph Dot here and Blem water bottle here). I really thought I had my water bottle sorted with the Blem one. However I soon found a whole new […]

I bought this bottle as a gift for my partner. It came sooo damaged, and the customer service was horrible, very unfriendly. They filter through reviews on their website. The quality is also very poor. The lid already is splitting and it’s inner wall has fell off. Here are the real reviews

Don’t buy from this company. Definitely would NOT recommend.
Go with reputable brands who actually have great ethics and values and environmental ethics, such as Patagonia or reputable brands like Owala etc.

Oh gosh, so sorry to hear you had such a bad experience! I have to say mine is still going strong all this time and countless washes later, but perhaps I was just lucky! I should note that this was certainly not a sponsored review or anything like that – just a genuine review of a product I have enjoyed using. Hope you and your partner found a good replacement!
